The '100' Heartbreaker
Ultra FIT magazine have issued a WOW Challenge (Workout of the Week) involving the classic Burpee Press Up. It asks that you do 10 minutes of burpee press ups (record set is 104) so, WGC has a slightly different approach to this and created The '100' Heartbreaker. Same exercise but you time yourself and stop after 100. This will be great prep for the Marlow 'Tough Enough' Challenge. Oh and btw , remember the jump at the end !
Results will be posted on a leader board.

Who is the Fittest Gym of the Year (UK) so far ...
Keep posted folks, all those points mean something for the gyms taking part.
The Fittest Gym in the UK can only be tested by the fitness of their members and as WGC is the only one running this challenge and as members from any gym take take part - only the gyms in the UK Fitness Gym Challenge Series can count themselves and members as the fittest in the UK.
It's really not about just one event - its about a series of events over one year, by different gyms and different gym members... and the winner is so far .... keep posted - details will be up shortly.

Gym Athlete of the Year is a game of Kings , Queens and Pawns in the gym. Only if you enter one event per year , you add towards your gym's tally of points, which at the end of the year could make all the difference between being crowned Fittest Gym in the UK based on fitness results achieved by their members only.
It's a bit like the lottery - you have to enter events to stand the chance to be crowned UK's Fittest Gym and the UK Gym Challenge Association is proud to be first to initiate this dynamic competition, just to see how gym - fit members actually are.
FYI , we have contacted
The FIA
Life Fitness
Fit Pro
Reps
Matrix Equipment
Mars Refuel
Vodafone
Marks & Spencer
Powerade
Technogym
Precor
Star Trac
Premier Training
Ultra FIT Magazine
And what seems like a thousand gyms - but really to no affect - Just today I watched gym staff in the gym I train at gather round and talk socially amongst one another and not really care too much about what their members are achieving in a gym - I tried to engage them in the Powerade Great Gym Challenge, but they kind of nodded , murmured a few words , then went back to their conversations. It's a hard world out there for the Gym Athlete.
But those names mentioned above in blue , are the first ever gym members who are getting recognised for the fitness levels they have achieved in a gym environment and to them all I say thank you for supporting the sport of X Training.
It must be remembered Gym Athlete of the Year is based on a series of events over one year.
Brighton
Camberley
Manchester
Leicester (Double Entry Points)
Fit Brit (Double Entry Points)
Inverclyde (tbc)
Reading (Charity Day) to be included in 2011
Hampshire, Gym Ironman and Calso declined to be part of the Series.

Richard Vint - Fitness First Fleet
Richard Vint - Read about what Richard thought about the Gorton Grueller and discover some of the secrets that make this year's winner one of the best discoveries for X Training the sport has ever seen.
Taking this season by storm, Richard has been at the top of the tree for every event so far this season in the first ever UK Gym Fitness Challenge Series.
Since his introduction to to X Training by Cassius Frankson, and his taster at Fit Brit in 2008, Richard steers and perceivers in creating his own special training techniques to ensure that he constantly improves. As a serving Police officer and a member of a very busy gym in Fleet, Hampshire, Richard has to make sure that when he trains, he is as efficient as possible , in as least time as possible, that will give him maximum results.
The days of endlessly running around in a gym with no direction are very nearly at an end. The Industry will soon recognise the brilliant performances of what Gym Athletes achieve and have to support their members in what is the only sport for gyms - X Training.

The Gorton Grueller Race Report
This year's race report celebrates the making of two fitness champion's, Richard Vint Fitness First Poole and Kelly Friel Esporta Hampshire, in a gym in the only way we know how, by members and personal trainers creating an event and people turning up and challenging one another to a physical fitness challenge in a gym environment.
Numbers were disappointingly low - however for the races that took part and for those members who achieved results in fitness, you take with you the knowledge that in a infrastructure of over 4 million members of which any single member of a gym could try this challenge - the numbers that turned up in Gorton did themselves proud - and you are simply the best.
Mike Jones, Varouk Vawda and Craig Horsfield all from Fitness First Gorton are an inspiration to any gym and the fitness industry, that ever wanted their members to achieve results in fitness. The fittest and most motivated gym members X Train. And the Gorton Grueller is one of the best events - roll on next year!
Ben Stroud's record still exists(17:07) another year will go by and then another Gorton Grueller will take place and maybe the record and pb's could be broken - the point is, that's a lot of motivation and focus waiting to be trained for.

Race Line Up
Every gym in the UK has their so called Elite in Fitness. Lets face facts. Until you have proven results in fitness in Gym Based Sports keep on thinking you are Elite - because the harsh reality is when it comes to Gym Based Sports , the only way you get results is to enter events.
There is simply no excuse not to compete if you want to call yourself 'Elite in Fitness' each gym can have access to the WGC database and if you want to compete in your own gym - you can. But if you want to compete against the best in the UK then you have to enter events.
The Gorton Grueller Races
Personal Trainer Mike Jones (Organiser of the Gorton Grueller)
WGC is looking forward to the final race of the day, where current No 1 Richard Vint takes on Daniel Wright. Not much is known of Daniel, but word of the grapevine is that this will be a corking race!
Trudi (LA Fitness Deby) and Kelly (Esporta Hampshire) go head to head - it's gonna be close !!
Alex Woods(Edinburgh) and Steve Dowse (Definition Lifestyle and Fitness) close ranks on what are becoming epic duels.
The UK Gym Challenge Association
The UK Gym Challenge Association is interested in one thing - members who have proven results in Gym Based Sports.
It's a bit like the Football Association being interested in football results!
If your gym is not interested in Fitness Gym Challenges ask yourself why?
If you or your gym would like to join the UKGCA then contact info@worldgymchallenge.com for further details.

The Great Gym Challenge
After contacting Powerade last year about support for WGC it is nice to see they have embraced a Gym Challenge of their own. Admittedly it would have been preferable for support for the UK Gym Athlete - but it is a start to get more members taking part in Gym Challenges.
A fun Gym Challenge has been created by 'Take to the Streets' and supported by Powerade.
The challenge consists of :
2 km Row
5 km Bike
3 km Run
It is tough as you make it. If you are a Gym Athlete then the following League Table has been created for you, with me winning it so far with a time of 34:59
League ID is 22874
Gym Athlete League
Password: Gym Athlete
As a bit of fun, this is a worthwhile challenge. I used Pulse Bikes and cycled at around 26kph - 29 kph all the way. I ran at roughly 11 - 13 kph all the way and has a split of around 2:01 for the row.
Lets not too concerned about what Bike does what - its a fun challenge for you to take part in and please join this fun challenge.
Any member who takes part will have his/her times displayed on a WGC Leader Board too, if they wish.

The Brighton X Training Challenge
Thank you to Jamie Spencer for organising the 2nd event in the UK Gym Challenge Series (The Brighton Nut Cracker) A lot of time and effort goes into the preparations for events such as these and the 2nd Brighton X Training Challenge looks to be a quality field of ranging 'gym-fitness' levels, so be prepared to see some fantastic racing.
Final races in both Open Categories ( Alex Woods , Richard Vint, Becky Nicholas, Kelly Friel, Steve Dowse and Craig Horsfield) will be worth the journey alone and Gym Athletes from the past (Claire Boyce) and returning Gym Athletes of many years, Gary Nicholls, Martin Carter, Steve Dowse, Dave Halll, Simon Bellinger all add to the experience of competing in Gym Fitness Challenges. It's also nice to see the return of William McKeever (first timer at Camberley) who has been enjoying his experience of X Training.
The event may be down in numbers from last year slightly, but is topped up nicely by gyms that are passionate about gym fitness, such as Daves Gym in Sidcup Kent, where brothers Anton, Miles and Joseph Micalef all train at, along with Nigel Hodges, Gary Dorman and Philip Brown, all spurred on by personal trainer Dave Hall.
The harder you train in a gym, the harder it is to shine. Gym Athletes are emerging in the fitness industry in the UK as people who achieve results in a gym environment. They are the A grade students of 'gym-fitness' and have the results to prove it.
WGC remains committed in showcasing events and pushing the UK Gym Athletes into the forefront of the fitness industry to show just what can be achieved in a gym environment and welcomes any gym into the UK Gym Challenge Series, so that members can show just what motivated, focused gym members can achieve.
Good luck to everybody who competes on Saturday - You are the best in the country and WGC salutes you.

If you are wondering why the picture below is a little out of focus, it's because it was taken on a mobile phone. WGC deals in results only!
WGC estimates that 95% of any gym is not 'gym-fit' * and alarm bells should be ringing by now.

What do all four people have in common? Answer: Personal Trainers.
'If you are employed as a fitness professional and want to be viewed as a credible source of information, you have to be fit and 'look the part' This doesn't mean that you have to run a four minute mile or bench press 500 pounds; but it does mean that you have to work out.'

Will X Training get the kick start it needs this year?
Next issue of Ultra FIT magazine see's how the Royal Marines train and who is their fittest? Last year WGC covered the Royal Marine X Training Challenge and witnessed first hand just what happens when a group of very motivated and very fit individuals compete to be the fittest and awarded the Marines with its own trophy in celebration of who would win.

All the splits and results were entered into the WGC leader Boards (Results) and as those that know about X Training know all too well, the winner was Chris Lord with a time of 15 min's and 55 seconds, almost a minute quicker then his nearest rival and who features on the back pages of this months Ultra FIT magazine.
The forces are a prime breeding ground for X Training and with Men's Fitness launching a new challenge with FIT Brit, it certainly looks like X Training is going to be on everybody lips by those who are serious about fitness by the end of the year.
Gym Athletes compete in the sport of X Training and the Royal Marines have been competing for years.

The Camberley Ice Breaker has adapted to the WGC one judge one event system of judging. All judges would have completed the course, or have constant involvement in it. Please click on the updated Race Plan to see race times, judges and time keeper details.
Please remember the judges decision is final and as with any sport - sometimes they are bang on the money and sometimes errors are made. With the experience in the line up of judges at the Camberely Ice Breaker, I hope you would agree, it has been one of the best line ups ever for judges and every effort has been made to inform you of the race plan in as much detail as possible.
Good quality judging makes an event and Lloyd Millichap - Head Judge and organiser has some of the most experienced judges in X Training at this event. Be warned the judging will be tight and consistent.
On behalf of WGC and Lloyd Millichap - we hope you enjoy it and good luck to all the Gym Eagles who takes part.

Ice Ice Baby .... Ice Ice Baby ... Ice Ice Baby ... The Camberley Ice Breaker
Is the X Training scene due for some changes in who wins challenges this year? Can anybody reach close to Royal Marine Chris Lord's impressive performance of last year - can he be caught?
Well until the sport expands and brings new blood into it, or returning Gym Athletes come back into the sport- we will not know for sure.
What can be said, is that this event is a great start to the season, full of top seeded Gym Athletes raring to get their teeth into a fresh new challenge with inspiring changes to the normal format of events.
The final races between Steve Mead and Richard Vint, between Andy Lett and Steve Dowse, between Dan Edge and Martin Carter are going to be awesome. But for me and no pressure ladies, the race of the day has got to be Becky Nicholas (Calso Gym ) and Trudi Hawksworth (LA Fitness Derby) For those in the know - know that surely this will be one of those races that will go right to the wire - the cardio specialist vs the weight specialist ... I can hardly wait.

The next event in the first ever UK Gym Fitness Challenge Series is The Brighton Nut Cracker and details will be released soon.

The Run Bike Row
A new imperial version of the Run Bike Row is available to gyms in the US called.
The USA Run Bike Row (Charity Day) Challenge.
The distances are set as follows:
Run 0.62 Miles
Bike 1.25 Miles
Row 500 m
The Row is still metric due to most rowing machine events accepting the Olympic distance of 2000 m as the main competition distance.
The first ever US based gym in New York is currently using this challenge using Cybex gym equipment. This is a first in the history of X Training having direct contact with the USA and World Gym Challenge.com acknowledges Core Dynamics Gym in the US (New York) as the first gym to engage in X Training (Gym Fitness Challenges).
We hope they have a successful and very enjoyable experience in this fantastic new gym sport.
