GymXTC ™ 2010
The UK Gym X Training Championships get underway again in September with The Ultimate Gym Athlete being the last event in the Series, although points gained at Fit Brit will be added on to the final score and both events carry double entry points.
UGA Entry 6 points
Results points 10 - 1
Fit Brit Entry 4 points
Results points 5 - 1
Male Advanced
Leading the Male Advanced is Richard Vint with victories at all events this year. More points would have been added if Marlow was included, but this was a trial event to see if any problems arose.
Close on his heels is Steve Dowse (last year's winner) but with wedding arrangements with Female Intermediate Leader Becky Robert getting in the way of this date , will unfortunately miss the event.

WGC would like to take this opportunity to wish both Steve and Becky every happiness together .

Race of the year will be Alex Woods, taking on Rich Vint with both Gym Athletes being known for their aerobic capacity on the treadmill.
Also taking part this year is Steve Mead, current Leader of the Fit Brit Challenge.

Steve has been a long standing Gym Athlete and it's good to see his performance improve over the last few months.
Steve is now a member of Bannatynes Health Clubs, whereas Richard is Fitness First - could this be a clash of both gym's fittest competing? Something that WGC is trying to establish
Female Advanced

Sarah Connolly from Calso Gym leads the board this year with constant improvements on each event and a full turn out. Kelly Friel has ruled herself out for UGA , so points between the top 5 entries , could mean that if both events are entered (UGA and Fit Brit) The leader board will be very close.
Intermediate Male

Probably the last year in top spot at this level for Simon Friel, who has also declined entry to the UGA. Simon has dominated this area for so long it will be interesting to see how he fares in the Advanced Leagues next year.
Intermediate Female
Becky as mentioned earlier will be unable to compete and with the points being relatively low, the last two events of the season, could make this area change completely due to double point entry
The first ever Gym XTC ™ Championships
A look back at the season will see many high's and lows of performances; and as we all know it's how you perform on the day that brings out a true champion.
The first year of a reccognised structure for Gym Based Sports has been plagued by financial issues mainly due to potential sponsors of the UK's Fittest Gym Athletes ignoring their ability and fitness levels of those who compete , but WGC's main aim into to 2011 is continue to seek sponsorship for the Championships next year.
Only Fitness First chain of gyms getting behind the concept of gym challenges.
WGC remains committed into providing a platform for the UK Gym Athlete to gain recognition for the results they achieve in a gym and believes it is not just the one event that proves who is the fittest Gym Athlete, but a Series of events, based on a grading level of Gym Athlete.
The League of Gym Eagles will return in 2011.
It remains a mystery as to why the industry as a whole fails to see the benefit of Gym Based Sports. The fia (fitness industry association) have ruled out an interest in seeing a sport for gyms evolve as David Stalker does not believe fitness in gyms can be turned into a sport, so it is unlikely we will be getting support from the industry that represents suppliers and operators, but not gym members.
WGC remains optimistic that a sport for gyms can evolve from the gym member and that publishing results and our recent addition of You Tube channel will provide even more information about the sport of X Training and the members who compete and looks forward to another year of X Training events in 2011. |
