The Dragons event is as popular as ever. This year, the entries that weren't in quick enough have had to wait for the next event. The Gym Challenge is certainly proving to be year in and year out one of the most challenging aspects of gym culture. A tough challenge that incorporates all your training into a single purpose, set at differing levels to accommodate all the levels of fitness.

Sue and Steve Regan Watts talk about the event and what's involved in organising one and their views on X Training and it's future.

How long has Dragons Gauntlet been going?
This is the 5th year and improving every year.
Have you seen a steady increase in numbers taking part ?

Yes. Defiantly this year, we have already gone over our limit and still getting phone calls, obviously the web sites are promoting well.

How many from Dragons are taking part

Approximately 22

Have you had any support from Dragons?

Namely Nicky Bonniface and Debbie Wilson for allowing us the use of the studio. And not forgetting one of our xtrainers Matt Egan who provides us with the  posters advertising the competition to our members. We also draw upon members to help in marshalling.
If you could see a dream race – who would it be against? (any sporting profiles)

Is there any sporting celebrity who would challenge lets say Mr Davies at the following; (1) Ironman xtraining comp (2) 10km road run (3) National Duathlon course 10km run 40km bike 5km run (4) Rowathlon 4km row 25km bike 7.5km run. (5) 100m sprint 200m sprint and 400m run 800m and a 1500m run.

All to be completed daily ie 1 event each day. Steve would be up for it is there a sporting celebrity who would take the challenge? I think you would be found wanting !. A five day event Awesome

Would you like to see regional events? That means you would have to qualify a time for a National event ?

Yes definitely feel the sport is heading that way anyway.

How did you and Steve meet ?

Training in the gym. Steve asked if I would like some personal training, but not in the gym. First session free of course!

How much work is involved in the pre race preparations  ?
Lots, it's mentally draining particularly organising race slots, judges and marshall's.
What for you is the hardest part of the race ?
Waiting for the start sometimes you can waste a lot of nervous energy . The Treadmill is pretty tough
Do you enjoy the social side of X Training ?

You bet! best part of the comp is the after party to wind down and hopefully celebrate a successful day.

How many Clients have taken to X Training, either just for Training or entering events?

75% of Steve's clients are actively involved in xtraining, some of which do compete.

What was your best event?
The one you were proudest of.Iron lady this year and the Gorton Grueller both great races with Becky Ceil. Steve's proudest moment was the Super Teams with the late Phil Mc Connell and Gary Nicholas. Gary had to withdraw at the last minute dew to injury, his place was taken by Adam Horders brother who had never even competed in xtraining before and they still finished 4th- great eventl
How do you see the future of X Training ?
Its looking good. There is certainly a lot more competions around.
Cheers Sue and Steve. Well done for organising this event and I am sure it will be a fantastic day - they always are!
