Introduction by WGC

Hywel Davies has literally dominated X Training since his first to last victory. He is simply the man everybody tries to beat.

Hywel has moved on to more Tri Athlete events of late having accomplished all of what he wanted to achieve in X Training. He recently competed at at the Hawaiian Ironman in 2006 and can often be found at many of Bike Run and Swim events around the country.

Untill more events take place and recognition develops for X Training, the likes of Hywel will not be found for a very long time. And he will continue to dominate.

Hywel is an outstanding athlete and it is not until you have tried a X Training challenge do you realise how incredibly fit the elite of X Training really are.

Hywel was the race leader last year to the Phill McConnell Memorial Run 2006. An annual run up the dainty little slopes of Pen Y Fan in South Wales, to remember many of the top X Trainers close friend Phill McConnell.

On X-Training...
How long have you been X-Training?
Since 1995.

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
All pain and all gain.

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
At the start, Rob Volpe. Seeing a magazine article on him made me want to have a go at what he does. Then no other influence as to look up to someone would be admitting that they were better. Always tried to make Dad proud though

How often do you train?
Not religiously, if I don't feel like it, I don't. Sometimes just 20 min's a day, but that's enough to hurt.

What is your favourite exercise?
Any that's challenging, most XT stations are too easy. I found that i no longer needed to train for them, which is not what XT is all about.

What is your favourite food for training?
Guinness.

What is your ambition in X-Training?
I have achieved them all.

What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?
Train out of the gym, and compete in more events than XT only.

On Sport...
Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
Yes, Rugby, Athletics, Basketball

Do you compete in any other sport?
Mountain bike racing

How often do you rest?
Every day. Why should the amount of rest be of importance to people??? Rest when you need to, if you train hard enough, you need to take some sort of rest every day.

Do you suffer many injuries?
No

Have you ever parachuted (sky dived tandem or solo) out of a plane. Would you?
Yes, both.

What is the one sport you have never taken part in but would have loved to have excelled in?
Dancing, the ladies love it!!

If you could meet anyone in sport, past or present, who would it be?
Met them both, Seb Coe and Steve Redgrave. True athletes, not over hyped tossers.

Did you ever see the footie match in the film Kes?
Yes, show it in school to sports leadership groups

6 Nations Rugby is all the BBC has left.

On Health...
Do you think the obesity problem in schools and the US can be controlled?
No, because parents need to understand the importance of nutrition first.

Comments ...
Cross Training is not a sport, but a method of training that incorporates many different enjoyable disciplines such as running, walking, cycling, swimming, rowing, weights, games, relaxation, skills etc etc. Don't get anal about one thing but try to enjoy them all rather than see them as a chore. Fitness is a life skill, not a measurable definite. Enjoy training, and enjoy competing. Winning is always a bonus.
