The 28th April 2007 will be a well remembered date in the memory of X Trainers up and down the country. Mark Drury's very well run and expertly judged competition took place at Fitness First, Dunstable.
In one of the hottest days of the year so far one hundred and twenty four dedicated and motivated gym enthusiast turned up to compete in what has always been considered a demanding and very challenging day and that is just talking about getting there!
From the north they came and from the south to compete in the midlands. X Training is reaching out to all the corners of the UK and embracing it: the ultimate in gym fitness. If the gyms won't hold X Training events, then X Training will find a way - we are in re - evolution stages and slowly but surely, the regeneration of Gym Challenges is coming back on the health and fitness menu.
For those of you that were there you will know what I mean about training for this challenge. To be motivated for this event, you have to have put the training in, if you haven't, it will show and probably the words suffer and hurt a tad more come to mind!
What can be said of this sport is that nerves sometimes get the better of you before an event. The lead up is excruciating and some people ask themselves, am I up for this? Will I let myself down, what happens if I don't complete it? Will I get a good a time? and how on earth did I get myself in to this! But come finish time, when that clock has stopped ticking and you are in" The Slump" you know more then anyone, what you achieved. All those days training at a gym were for something. The result will speak for itself and you are content and satisfied that you haven't wasted a moment in your gym - grit, determination and digging deep got you through a tough day. Well done to every single one of you.
Only a small minority of hard and dedicated gym enthusiasts from each gym even think about entering events like this let alone compete in one. A gym challenge is somewhat scorned upon by many Gyms for some reason! A gym challenge in a gym? No I don't think our members will like that sort of thing, we are a small club and our members won't like it.
Really? I reckon if you ask the 124 people here today , some of them would disagree.
Were they all magafit types? No, just ordinary people that like to challenge themselves in a gym enviroment. The sport has evolved, it is a balanced well constructed cardiovascular and strength program that incorporates all of your training into one challenge. With the right training it provides all the motivation and aims one could hope for. The question gyms need to be asking is not what our members can't do - rather - what can we do for our members.
Thank you to Fitness First, Dunstable in Luton for letting this event take place. |
