What did you enjoy most about the set up of this event ?

The variety and having the opportunity to race lots of different and top competitors.

How has your training been in the lead up to this event?

Training has been Okay. I'm always working close to my limit and hurting in the gym, but life is busy at the moment, so not managing to train for as long and I would like each session (maybe that's a good thing...)

What would you say about the new additions - bag throw etc

The bag throw was good fun although I threw a few no reps!! Both the variety and consistency of all 3 courses made the comp really enjoyable. Well done to Alex.

What did you think about the growth of the Intermediate section?

The intermediate category is the life blood of the sport and it's a real buzz seeing new guys like Ben Cornwell coming through. Seeing growth in in this area, can only be really positive for the sport.

Who did you see that stood out today ?

  • AJ Orchard - he's an absolute beast, top competitor and bloke. His relentless pace dragged me through the Semi's.
  • Ben Cornwell - maybe the future?
  • Julie Mcgonigal.

What is it about XT makes you want to train at the gym ?

The feeling and reward of working very very hard. It helps to make every easy. I guess examples being: high levels of energy, physically fit 365, good mental focus. It also helps to control a healthy lifestyle.

If you could say to other gyms why they should incorporate a XT programme in their gym - what would you say ?

All of the above.

Why do you think the Advanced Women numbers are low ?

I'm not sure why the numbers for the women's Advanced Category have depreciated over the last few years. The exercises are definitely accessible, but maybe the transition in weights is harder from inter compared with the men's step up. Attracting more women into the sport needs to be a key area of development over the next few years.

Tell me about XT Hampshire this year ?

We're looking forward to HXT 15 this year l. The course will remain unchanged as the it's only a year old and the feedback was really positive. We would like to include the Royal Marines Charitable Fund this year with a certain John Worthy coming on board as lead Judge (he was superb in Saturday - top bloke) and World Gym Challenge of course ? Our aspiration is  to take 175 competitors through the competition this year.

What’s next for Liam ?

I really love X-Training - it's me. That said, I've signed up for a half ironman in September to get a feel for a little endurance and then get back in the gym to train super hard for HXT.

I get asked about Cross Fit all the time. It looks fun and I respect their diversity and training ethic lots, but not really my gig and at 186.5cm, I'd probably be permanently injured - not sure if I'm allowed to say that ha!

I might do Fit Brit this year and try and bag the free holiday too!
