On X-Training...

How long have you been X-Training?
Did my first comp in 1994 (one on one-Worcester).
Been doing on/off since then, got heavily into Boxing/Judo for a while so didn't compete for quite a while.

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
You can push yourself to the absolute max, testing both CV fitness & muscular endurance. It's a hard sport and unlike my other 2 sports (Judo&Boxing) you don't get hit!

Do you teach X-Training to your clients?
I try to encourage other Royal Marines to get into the sport, it's hard though because most Marines are already competing in other sports or they're in afghanistan!

What are their views on X-Training?
They like the training and most want to get into it after they've reached the pinnacle of their current chosen sport.

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
In the early days when the sport was evolving I trained with Darren Robson (Multi Ultrafit champion) another Marine PTI. He was awesome & his dedication was unbelievable. I also admire Steve & Sue Regan Watts for their commitment to X-training, Female wise I think Jacqui Mcquisten is untouchable. Cassius Frankson is a great guy and is always happy to share training tips.

How often do you train?
2 hours a day, 6 days a week.

What is your favourite excerise?
Bench press / Shoulder press.

What is your favourite food for training?
Chicken & Pasta with olives, sweetcorn and passata also lots of Bananas and chocolate milk shake.

What is your ambition in X-Training?
To achieve a top 5 placing before joining the Masters ranks next July. I'm usually in the top 10 at the mo in the Open.

What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?
Do more CV training than weights, I've always focussed too much on weights because I enjoy cultivating 'Beach muscles'! You don't need massive muscles for X-training, look at Hywel Davies.

On Sport...

Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
Ran 800 / 1500m for my county, also represented southern area at Judo.

Do you compete in any other sport?

Yes, I'm a qualified Military Parachutist, have done quite a few night jumps with full kit.
