You take a crowded room of top athletes and there is always one that has that something else about them. Maybe it's a quiet persona , or a certain look of confidence , but one thing is for sure that one athlete has something beyond what the others have and that always give them the edge.
Sam is that person. He is quietly confident at all times, but in a manner that is not arrogant. Ask anyone that knows him and they will say nothing but praise.
Sam has now his feet rooted firmly in the grounds of X Training and it's great for the sport.
Hywel's closest rival found a few moments to chat with me at the Hampshire and this is what he said... |
| Sam, what are you views on the season? |
| It's been a very good season and a very well attended season by all the X Trainers. There has been some great competitions, and of those I think it's fair to say , bloody hard competitions. |
| The shoulder press (30x 30kg) |
| Who has been your toughest competitor? |
Erm, well recent events would point at the race I just had - Jason king, but that's just because I have just finished the race and the pain is still fresh in my mind! He pushed me all the way. I have raced Kirk (Kirk Gibbons) a couple of times and they are are always close races. Having said that I still haven't raced against Will Whitmore or Cassius Frankson yet, so we will see what happens then.
And then of course there was Hywel at the beginning of the season at Calso which was a great experience. |
| Making it look easy is the hard part. |
| The prospect of you three racing would be some race? |
| Yeah, well , that would be, wouldn't it? We will have to see if that happens or not. |
| About to get the row going - a very strong rower. |
| Has there been any rivalry towards the end of the season? Or is it all just big slaps on the back? |
| There is always a bit of rivalry, but its fair play and yeah really it's all big slaps on the back. We all get on really well. It's a really nice atmosphere. The race I just did with Jason, for instance, great rivalry but we are great mates too. |
| What for you was the hardest event this year? |
| The hardest event? Er Crikey! They have all been very hard .But I think the Luton one. I was injured two weeks before and I shouldn't have really raced and as it was a fast course , I did suffer bit. |
| Chatting with good friend Nik Kandola. |
| How does X Training compare to Rugby? |
| It's a completely different style of fitness. It's short bursts of high intensity and over within 20 to 25 minutes, whereas rugby is drawn out. Having said that 10 min's or so after a X Training event you are feeling ok and can recover, after the hardest rugby game I played, I never never felt so exhausted compared to X Training |
| The head to head Treadmill race. |
| Sam, you broke the course record today, with a sub 20 min time, you must feel pretty chuffed? |
| Yes, very much so. It was a great race and yeah I am chuffed. I was aiming for around twenty and its great when your race plan actually works. |
WGC.com says a huge congratulations to Sam Orgee, for his victory in the Grand Prix this year. My only complaint is that there is not enough sponsorship to reward Sam with a fitting prize for his incredible achievement.
So again, I say to all the X Trainers out there, this site is for you guys and the likes of Sam , to get the recognition you deserve, by an Industry you train in and for the results you achieve. |

| Sit down, relax , it's all over for another year and until the next one ... |
