Becky Nicholas has been at the forefront of X Training for a number of years. Her partner Gary is responcible for great an innovative ideas when it comes to setting X Training challenges. Together they have been responcible for thier clients at Calso being amongst the best in the UK. Well done Becky for an outstanding year and well deserved victory in this years Grand Prix.

How do you feel about winning the GP?

I am so happy to have won the Grand Prix.  It meant a great deal to me and I trained extremley hard being pushed all the way by my competitors.  I knew I had to win the last event and knew it would be very tough and it was, but I was so determined and it paid off.
Competing in the Ironman in Manchester earlier this year .

What for you was your toughest race ?

All the races were tough, but I think the Fitness X-Treme in Luton was the toughest.  Each competition is tough in its own way, but the really strict judging made it even harder and I thought this was great and it gave me a real sense of achievemnt to have got through the course ensuring that each exercise was performed as it should be.
Who was your closest rival ?
My closest rival was Kirsty Read but I knew that it would be Sarah Deed who could prevent me getting that 1st place in the GP if she beat me.  Sarah Deed is very simular to me in her fitness as we both exell in the cardiovascular exercises and lose time on the weights so she will always be a threat to me.  Meanwhile Kirsty will beat me on the strength based courses like Ironman and Gorton Grueller.
Being a Mum and winning the GP is definitely hard work !

Would you compete in an International event?

I would love to say yes to competeing in an International event, but due to work and family commitments I just dont have the time.
Becky earlier this year rowing a marathon for Charity (3 hrs and 24 mins)

What was the most memorable moment?

The most memorable moment was hearing that I had beat Sarah Deed at Hampshire for 2 reasons.  Firstly I felt proud to have beat such a good Cross Trainer as Sarah is a great athlete and I did not know if I could do it.  Secondly it meant that I had won the GP which had been my dream for 2007.
 So many disciplines to master

Do you see X Training growing ?

do see Cross training growing if everyone can work together and continue to improve the judging of the exercises.  We have seen some great judging recently and that is a real boost for the sport.  It really is the ulimiate test of all round fitness, but until people get involved they do not realise just how good it is as a competitor and spectator so we really need to keep promoting it.

What athlete would you like to see take part in X Training ?

I would like to see Kelly Holmes take part in X Training as she has shown such determiantion and hard work which could pay off in Cross training.  Sean, if you can give her a call and get her into it that would definatley be a good promotion!

Would you like to see Gym’s combining their athletes in a UK National Championship?

The idea of Gyms challenging each other is great, but there is always the problem of who is judging and is it fair.  However if this could be overcome I do think it has great potential.
Becky's incredible cardio is exceptional when it comes to the treadmill.

Do you see growth in the GP ?

I do see growth in the Grand Prix if the correct events are chosen.  The great thing about the grand prix is that you can find the best all round competitor as they have to do several events.  Some events are largley strength dominated and some more cardiovascular and by having to win a mixture it is a true test.  I do think that if you give too much choice that all those who exell in strength events will chose those ones and vice versa so you will not get the Top Cross Trainers meeting to compete.  Therefore do you find the true winner at the end of the year?  As it was run this year 4 out of 6 counted so the top cross trainers had to meet at some events even if they were not their favourite.  For example out of 10 events I would chose all the high cardio ones and Kirsty would chose all the high strength ones and we will never meet, but some one will win the title of Grand Prix Champion!?
