ROKO Health Clubs Gillingham Date Added: 7th March 2008
Gym: ROKO Gillingham Manager: Paulo Kingston

On Wednesday 5th March at ROKO Gillingham Kent, Diabetes UK Charity was chosen to raise money for a worthy cause within the Health and Fitness sector.

Many members took part in a Triathlon with a difference using either the Rower, the X - Trainer or the Bike , members took turns in burning calories, working up a sweat and having fun all in the name of charity; which many gyms are realising is just what these sort of events can do for it's members, basically get fit and raise money for good causes in the process. Something that worldgymchallenge .com wants to do with a number of charities.

The gym supplies the equipment and motivation and the members and staff take part for a very worth while cause - the rest is up to how much energy you want to spend. Judging by the members reaction - lots was spent - loads of fun was had and the winners? Well just say Diabetes UK have a great result as did each member who took part.

Worldgymchallenge.com would welcome any gym to get in contact with them if your gym is thinking about holding a charity event and let us put you in our system to support worthy causes such as this event and take pride in your your members too.

Read on to find out about some of the people who took part in this special day - they are all part of something special. ....

 Nikki Caine

Nikki Caine works in Sales at ROKO and has been here since November 2007. Moving on from Fitness First Walderslade, to ROKO. Nikki an experienced Sales Administrator is a welcome addition to the ROKO team .

Nikki who says she is 100% committed to getting fitter and trains in the gym will be getting great results no doubt in getting fitter and achieving sales targets. Energetic, bubbly friendly and a warm welcoming smile means that as soon as you walk through the door, you are already enjoying the benefits of such a fantastic club.

On a personal note, Nikki says Vin Diesel as her favourite actor, Step Up was her favourite film, and loved reading Jordan's autobiography.

 Clive Creer

Clive is the man! Former Royal Engineer Clive's impressive display of competing in more or less every event, not once, not twice, not even three times, but four times and then throwing in a spin class and then having another go at some of the challenges means that Clive gets the award for most consistent member for this challenge! Heaps of praise should be heaped on Clive - brilliant performance throughout the day. A little worried about the hair piece - rumor has it he felt so comfortable in it he may well do all his training sessions wearing it!

The most impressive thing about all of this is that just over a year ago Clive underwent major surgery and was recommended fitness as a means for rehabilitation . Through careful monitoring and progress Clive has achieved so much on his road to recovery and I take my hat off to a real trooper in every sense of the word.

 Neil Coombs

I met Neil briefly at ROKO and was impressed with his speedy reaction to agree to do the Cycle Challenge. Already you can see a spark in someone like Neil who loves to Challenge himself and be the best as what he does.

Neil is an account Manager MEMS Power Generation a local firm and business owner of Neil Coombs and Co Ltd.

Most Sundays he can be found playing football - midfield for Featherby FC and since school days Mark has remained focused on his fitness and commitment to get fitter.

Mark won the fastest time of the day which he is to be congratulated on - before he started he asked what the fastest time was - Mark set off knowing what he had to do and you could almost sense before he even started that this was going to be a fast time - he was focused, motivated and achieved - the key ingredients to any Challenge and he got the result to prove it too. Well done.

 Nikki Giorgini

Nikki has worked at ROKO for six months, and previous to to that was in Sales at Thomas Cook. She works out regularly at the gym and enjoys spinning and general fitness. Always been into sports since school playing then Tennis, Hockey, Basketball she has remained connected to staying fit and healthy.

Nikki says her favorite film was Grease - loves Prison Break, her favourite actor (surprisingly )is George Clooney and like me is a huge fan of James Patterson novels.

 John Pye and Matt Davies

John (left) and Matt are great friends as well as Personal Trainers. A little bit of rivalry between these two meant they both set blistering paces for the 1000 m sprint. A little bit of fun and a little bit personal pride at stake all means that events like this build bridges and I think it's true to say 110% efforts are put in!. These guys are both at the top of their game and provide great motivation and focus to any of their clients (Matt's current WGC.com time 18 :30)

 John Wakelin

The first thing that strikes you about John is that he is a big fellah - in fact ask John and he will tell you he was an even bigger fellah in August 2007 where he weighed 22 stone . But with commitment to his training program and a good strong heart John has battled down to an impressive 19 stone and not only that - check John's time for his 1000 m sprint on the rower and you will know he is doing something right.

John (37) is a welder by trade working for the railways - his favourite film is the Green Mile and says he occasionally watches Hollyoakes for the outstanding acting performances from the female cast! He enjoys golf and will be seen most days working out at ROKO and working out well.

 Elaine Ferrel

Elaine has worked at ROKO since it opened two and a half years ago. Always smiling and always welcoming she is a star to those she greets warmly at the reception desk where she works.

Family commitments have seen Elaine relax a while from training, but in her former career at Esporta (now Virgin at Rochester) she actively trained. Now it's the occasional swimming session and then off home to the family.

 Damien Wright

I have known Damien a few years and he is a good mate. A Night Club Manager for the soon to opening revamped Mango Joe's  in Rochester . He regularly trains to improve his fitness and can be found most days of the week trying something to get fitter. His father is a good friend of mine and a Karate/Self Defense Instructor and between them - they are some of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
