World Strength Fitness Record Challenge May 13th 2008
Venue - Stamina's Boxing Martial Arts Club B'ham UK
Former ex 2 Para and World Fitness Endurance Record Holder Paddy Doyle, pushed himself once again to break four tough strength fitness records. The 43 - year old former boxer and martial arts kumite champion, who won the title of World Fitness Endurance Champion, completed a series of gruelling challenges in ten hours.
Among his new record feats were back of hands press ups. " There were over a 100 supporters who came down during the day and they were fantastic," Said endurance champion Paddy. "They were the ones who kept me going." The long day started at 9. 00am on 13th May, at Stamina's Boxing Martial Arts Centre B'ham.
For each new fitness and endurance record, he completed it in an hour and wore a 40 lb back pack. First up he did 1,619 step ups on a 15 inch bench, smashing the previous record held by Rob Simpson {Leeds} by over 100, then he completed 663 back of hands press ups, and finally 901 shuttle sprints {30 ft distance}.
But that was just a warm up. Next was the World Endurance Strength Record, which included doing five challenges within seven hours - setting a new World Record. In 6 hours and 55 min's, Doyle did 833 step ups with a 40 lb back pack on a 15 inch bench, then rowed 82.84 miles, followed by 133.56 km on a gym cycle, 130 back of hands press ups with a 40 lb back pack and finally 220 shuttle sprints again with the same weight on his shoulders.

He finally finished and earned a well deserved finale at 7.30pm, but admitted there was time when he thought he wouldn't be able to attempt the World Record challenges. "I had to have some stitches in my left hand after ripping it on barbed wire," said Doyle. "I jumped over a fence when I was training and the barbed wire ripped some flesh out of my left hand. "I also had a chest infection during the week and was on penicillin for that. "So it was an absolute gamble to go ahead with the challenge - but it paid off." This brings his total of career strength speed stamina records to 168, in which he holds 74 World Records.
