Phil, has been with sport since the early days. He was responsible for running The Tropicana - very hard and very successfully X Training events. He enters the events these days having recovered from a previous injury and is slowly moving on up the UKXTA rankings after each event. Phil can often be seen as one of the few competitors who smiles during an event. That is not to say all the others have no sense of humor, its just very hard to smile when you are in so much pain!

Acheivements...

Run John ' 0' Groats to Lands end in a week. 882miles run 26miles carrying 55kg bag of sand on back. Ran with a telegraph pole on my shoulders for 26miles. e.tc.all for charity

On X-Training...

How long have you been X-Training?
I did very first ever Xtraining about 12 yrs ago. I have had 3yrs off due to Paramedic training and shoulder injury. Been back doing x-training for a year.

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
I love the training for the comps .I love the buzz at the comps.Ii love the challenge. Also I like to mix with other gym gladiators.

Do you teach X-Training to your clients?
Yes I do, i got Paul Morton into x-tra comps last yr. So far he has won two out of 4 intermediates comps. He will be stepping up to open for Hampshire Comp. Watch out for him on the run. He will be a top masters by next yr.

What are their views on X-Training?
They love it, gives them motivation to train, also they get fast results.

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
All the older guys that were around 10 yrs ago, Rob Volpe, Steve Quick, and the main man himself Mr Hywell Davies,

How often do you train?
I have to train around my long 12 hour shifts, at least 3 times a week, but I train 100% when I train.

What is your favorite exercise?
I like the pull-ups, & bench press the best.

What is your favorite food for training?
Weat a bix

What is your ambition in X-Training?
To win over all in a big x-training comp - not just the masters. Also to win the national comp. I have reached my short term goal which was to get into top ten masters, in a yr, next is to be number one master.

What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?
Remember, 'repetition is the mother of mastery' train on your weakest exercise so it becomes your strength.

On Sport...

 

Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
I was a bit of a all rounder. Good at gymnastics

Do you compete in any other sport?
I'm going to have a go at triathlons next year.

Have you completed in any other sport in the past?
Martial arts. Boxing.

How often do you rest?
I use my work days as a Paramedic as rest days, if you can call 12 hours of CPR rest.

Do you suffer many injuries?
I'm lucky, I only have little injures.

Have you ever parachuted (sky dived tandem or solo) out of a plane. Would you?
Yes, been there got the t-shirt

What is the one sport you have never taken part in but would have loved to have excelled in?
Ironman

No , but will be soon -getting a wall mounted 42 inch screen

I liked the Gladiators.

On Health...

Do you think the obesity problem in schools and the US can be controlled?
Yes. Show them real life victims of over eating. I will bring them out with me on the Ambulance to all the heart attack people I go to in a day, most of them are over weight. People should be given the short sharp shock treatment to make them understand.

What's the one golden rule in weight management?
Read up on what food is good for you, also what food is not!



Do you know your resting and maximum heart rate?

Do you train with an HR monitor?
I have in the past, but take it off when training for a x-tra comp as it goes off the scales.
