Obviously you must be delighted with your first win ? What are your thoughts on winning in the Open?
It was great to win my first event and execute my race plan; it was quite frustrating forcing myself to row so slowly at the start. I've still got a long way to go through.
You had the fastest run of the day - what speed were you running at?
I started the run at 17kph and my plan was to run the whole way at that but I noticed Alex slowing so I took the pace down to ensure getting my shoulder press out in a descent time.
Describe that sort of pain?
The pain on the treadmill is never too bad for me because I can't max out due to my shoulder press being rubbish - although that's changing.
How are you preparing for the 60's at the Fenton Grueller?
I've been preparing for the Fenton Grueller for a while now it fitted in with some Maxifit sessions.
What was the day like and the preparation for the Maxifit?
Maxifit was a great event and has grown each year. To have 3 lanes racing makes for great viewing.
Do you think not having to travel so far made a difference?
Not travelling helped a little but I don't think travel has ever been a problem for me.
Would you like to see more events in Scotland?
it would be nice to have maybe one more event
How can we attract more gyms into running events?
I think the way Bobby Mcvitie used social media to promote Maxifit and reach capacity months before the event shows that it can be done.
What would be your message to the fitness industry about the benefits of X Training?
X-Training is a sport that allows people of many different abilities to compete against themselves and others.
Do you think you could now break sub 15 in WGC and reach elite status?
Yes
Do you use a heart rate monitor at all?
No I don't use one. I did when I was running and rowing but not when X-Training.
What are your thoughts on the day?
It was a great event with some fantastic performances. The intermediate category was as competitive as some open competitions I've seen in the past. The women's open final was an amazing race it had everything.
Will you be defending your record next year?
Yes I will be there next year but I have a feeling the winner will need to go sub 14 to win so it won't be easy.
Who is the inspiration behind your training?
I train a lot with Alex Woods and his attention to detail is 2nd to none however I think he may have banned me from training with him now since I beat him.
What would you to say to somebody who may be thinking about competing ?
Anyone thinking of competing should definitely go for it. X-Training is a great experience.
