Explain a little but about Kiddy the person? I´m almost 42 years old, married and we have a 12 year old daughter. I´m a sport teacher and a personal trainer. I teach sports, dance, nutrition and anatomy in school and than I do a group- and personal training in Lífsstíl health center. I live in Keflavik, Iceland. Keflavik is were the international airport is and the capital city Reykjavík is an half hour away. My sports background is handball, I played goalkeeper for many years. After that I started running, teaching aerobics, steps and a little bit of weight training. The year 2001 I competed in my first Ultrafit competition with a group. 2003 I started to compete as an individual. I won the Ultrafit competition here in Iceland 13 times in a row. Now we don´t have Ultrafit anymore, it has changed a little bit. I´ve also competed in pairs and teams and got a few titles there. Last year I won the title 'fittest 39+ years old woman in Iceland' after scoring good points in four events over the year ( Crossfit, Bootcamp, 5x5 and Lifestylechampion)
Iceland probably has the keenest following in fitness events . Why do you think this is? Even though Iceland has only around 322.000 people (that is not much compared to UK) we have very big thoughts and believes. The Viking blood seems to get us further. Icelanders like new things and they are open for challenges. I think that, is the main reason why all our events in fitness are usually pretty packed. The guys that control those events have also done a really good job doing great events and getting people to compete. We have about 400 people competing in every event last year. It is people competing in individual, pairs and teams.
How did you train for the Maxifit event and what was you weakest part. I train usually almost every day, I´m not good at taking a day off. My 'day off' is going out for a run or a bike, but sometimes just going for a walk. I train with my team '5 fræknar' (fabulous 5) 5-6 times per week. We have a personal trainer 2 times per week that challenges us with some new things. For Maxifit, I did those exercises about 3-4 times per. week for 7 weeks. Once a week a timed run through, once a week doing every exercise heavier and more reps (timed) and once a week mixed with running and other exercises.
You has the 3rd fastest run on the day ... What's your favourite running discipline ? ( 400, 800, 1500, cross country ....?) I´m a long distance runner. I´ve done a few ½ marathons, so everything over 5 k is good for me.
Gwen is the UK no 1 in the UK , did that add pressure to you? I was happy that the winner from last year was competing, it gave me more reason to come over and compete, it was a good pressure. Gwen and Tracy are great athletes, I knew they were both really good. I said to my self, the pressure is more on them, specially Gwen. I knew what I could do, so I kept to my plan and it worked out great.
Do you still keep in contact with Michelle Parsons at all? No I haven´t been in contact with her.
Do you compete in. Cross fit at all? In Iceland we have one Crossfit competition in our events. If you want to be able to win 'the fittest in Iceland' you have to compete in Crossfit too. Crossfit is not my favorite. Big part of Crossfit is heavy weights. I´m not so good with heavy weights. Lifting heavy weights with a time pressure, gets you more likely to injury your self. But Crossfit is pretty popular in Iceland, but I like the lighter weights and more reps better.

Do you prefer racing in fixed stations with a running clock? Or individual platforms? I like to mix things up, not always doing the same. The stopwatch is one of my favorite things, I like going through exercises with a running clock, it gets me further I think.
To a beginner what would be your advice? PLAN YOUR WORK, WORK YOUR PLAN. Challenge your self, set your self some goals, and do everything you can to reach them. Don´t be afraid to compete, it´s worth it for sure. The energy you get, finishing a good race gives you so much power. YOU CAN DO IT, IF YOU BELIVE IT !
What is your favourite, movie, music, actor, food. My favorite movie is 'Four weddings and a funeral' with Hugh Grant. My favorite music is Of monsters and man „ (great Icelandic band), U.2. and many more...I like a lot of music. When I was a teenager Adam Ant and Duran Duran were one of my favorites. My favorite food is oats, muesli, skim milk, fruits, veggies, multigrain bread, eggs, Spaghetti and meatballs, and Chicken noodles....for a desert anything with chocolate scores high.
How many hours do you train per week? About 14-16 hours usually.
How so you relax? I like relaxing with my family. Sometimes we go to our families summerhouse, that is really nice.
Would you like to see more gyms get involved ? Yes sure, I believe those X-fit events are better for most people than pure Crossfit. To many injuries come from Crossfit training.
The Maxifit was a good venue and well run event , would you like to see more events and maybe more UK and Iceland challenges It´s so much fun to go to another country and to compete and be around people that enjoys the same thing as you do. Me and my friends were really happy about our trip to Scotland. I know that many competitors in Maxifit were interesting to come to Iceland and compete. We have an event in november here in my hometown that is similar to Maxifit and Ultrafit, I think it would be alot of fun for you to come to Iceland.
What's next ? I have a competition 1.june it is Bootcamp. It´s alot of rowing (100, 200, 300, 400, 500 m), 20 pull ups, 30 goblets with 24 kg, 40 lying frogs, 50 push ups and 60 side jumps. I´ts going to be a tough one, we have alot of amazing athletes competeing. I´m also going to compete with my team '5 fræknar' After that I´m going to Florida for a vacation, and propably start running more and preparing for a ½ marathon in august. |
