Introduction by WGC

Carrying the flag for the first featured overseas X Trainer to be featured on WGC.com X Trainer focus is Hasan Itani. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the recent Best of the Best held in Dubai, and without wanting to repeat myself too often, is as are most X Trainers I meet, totally dedicated to training and a really nice guy.

Hasan completed the event there with grit and determination and it's easy to see why he did so well. He was focused and motivated and did the best he could in a sport where at the elite element is tough. Hasan takes to this sport and loves it and we wish him all the best in any event he takes part in.

On X-Training...

How long have you been X-Training?
I started competing in 2006, but have been doing some form of X-training since I was 11 years old.

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
I enjoy the variety and love the intensity, efficiency, and effectiveness of each session on the whole body. I love how it strengthens me to do other sports with little training and do better than those who train specifically for that sport.

Do you teach X-Training to your clients?
I do not train anyone, so I don't "teach", but I do "preach" to all my friends on the effectiveness of crosstraining, especially after placing in competitions and doing better than they do on run races at times when they have put in the mileage and trained more specifically for running, which is what turns their heads to crosstraining.

What are their views on X-Training?
Some are totally convinced but opt to bail out due to the intensity of the workouts. Others who listen to me and take it one step at a time swear by its effectiveness but some have the problem of discipline in keeping up with it.

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
Ross Enamait (of rosstraining.com), Hywel Davies (for his versatility, discipline and accomplishments), Darren Robson (for his continuity, staying razor-sharp throughout the years, and his great character) and Will Whitmore (for his achievement through refinement and calm which makes you feel at home with the sport)

How often do you train?
I try to do a quality session everyday, and sometimes two. It all depends on my busy schedule, social commitments, and staying popular with the wife

What is your favourite excerise?
Pushup burpees :) (with tuck jumps)

What is your favourite food for training?
My own power pancakes, bananas, and salmon. (not together)

What is your ambition in X-Training?
To beat my previous times year after year...helps me deal with my aging denial (though I know I'm not aging)..

What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?
Consistency and making every workout. It's only when you're breathless and seeing double after a hard workout that you know you're improving.

On Sport...

Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
Full-contact kickboxing, running, swimming

Do you compete in any other sport?
Triathlon

Have you competed in any other sport in the past?
swimming, kickboxing, running

How often do you rest?
Whenever my body tells me to, but usually once per week.

Do you suffer many injuries?
Thankfully none so far

Have you ever parachuted (sky dived tandem or solo) out of a plane. Would you?
I definitely would, but I haven't tried as yet

What is the one sport you have never taken part in but would have loved to have excelled in?
Deep sea diving

If you could meet anyone in sport, past or present, who would it be?
Cassius Clay (Ali), Chris McCormack, Jim Thorpe

Did you ever see the footie match in the film Kes?
I haven't had the chance to see that movie unfortunately.

On Entertainment...

What is your favourite film?
The Usual Suspects

What is your favourite action/drama film?
Cinema Paradiso

If you could invite 3 people to dinner from all of history, who would they be?
Bruce Lee, Rafic Hariri, Nelson Mandela

Who is your comedy hero?
Jim Carrey

The Prophet (Khalil Gibran)

On Music...

The Best of Anthrax

What radio station do you listen to?
Dubai FM 92

Who is your favourite radio DJ?

Chet Baker: Autumn in New York

On Film...

Who is the coolest film character?
Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry

Who is the biggest villain?
Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) in Training Day

What is your favourite sports film?
Cinderella Man. I believe a good sports movie is not entirely about the sport in particular but about what motivates one to do their best.

On TV...

What is your fave TV show?
Friends

Do you watch soaps?
Noaps

Are you a 'biggest baddest TV with the flattest screen Dolby surround sound is the best' kinda person?
Not so much as I don't watch TV often.

What sport shows do you watch?
I mainly watch sports briefings when I do.

On Health...

Do you think the obesity problem in schools and the US can be controlled?
Absolutely. It has to start with people being more aware of the seriousness and danger of obesity; health foods should be more readily available especially on the run. Also the media should highlight health foods and package health habits in a better way so it can be viewed as cool and good rather than nerdy and dull as some see it.

What's the one golden rule in weight management?
Moderation

Do you know your BMI & BMR?
My BMI is 27 and BMR is 1844. I'm quite big, but I measure my health with my fitness level rather than my weight and BMR/BMI since muscle changes the equation a bit, at least that's how I rationalize it :).

Do you know your resting and maximum heart rate?
Resting is 48 and maximum is 198 bpm

Do you train with an HR monitor?
I train with my trusty monitor (Polar X625) that goes with me everywhere.
