Introduction by WGC

Ross Benson traveled from Scotland to compete at Hampshire. If not working off shore isn't hard enough Ross in his spare time devotes his passion for X Training with a ton load load of training as well as devoting time to his three children.

Again one of the striking similarities with most top X Trainers, what you find with Ross is that he quietly confident and has that instant likeable factor thrown in - not an over confident or in any way arrogant - but confident enough to say I have put the training in and I will now give it my best shot.

Ross trains at Inverclyde Leisure - the only known club in Scotland to run a recognised WGC event the Superfit, which a few X Trainers know about. Hopefully that event will run again this year with a full Leaders table to view and more X Trainers doing what Ross did and travel up to Scotland. I am informed it is a great event - run by a very slick and professional crew who welcome the chance to put on an event that is worthy of the sport. More details will be on the site shortly.

On X-Training...

How long have you been X-Training?
8 years on and off

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
It is the biggest physical challenge I have ever found and no matter how much you train it always pushes your limits on the day.

Do you teach X-Training to your clients?
I have no clients but do try to encourage anyone I meet in training to give it a go to better their own sport and find new limits.

What are their views on X-Training?
They all want to do it but can't quite commit. They are full of admiration for the people who take part.

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
The guys that I see taking part for the first time and no matter how long it takes them they won't give up. That gives me alot of drive when it comes to my turn.

How often do you train?
usually six days a week when I'm offshore but when I'm at home it's when the kids rota allows which can be next to nothing.

What is your favourite excerise?
Pull ups though I'm not very good at them.

What is your favourite food for training?
Lots

What is your ambition in X-Training?
To iron out all my weaknesses and find my true level within the field.

What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?
Always train above and beond what you need to do on the day. Be strict with yourself in training because it will be even worse on the day.

On Health...

Do you think the obesity problem in schools and the US can be controlled?
It's all the parents fault

What's the one golden rule in weight management?
Train harder

On Sport ...

Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
I've always tried to be and all rounder but contact sports like rugby and middle distance sprints like the 200 and 400m seemed to be my best.

Do you compete in any other sport?
Mainly downhill mountainbiking and snowboarding with a bit of BMX thrown in for a laugh.

Have you competed in any other sport in the past?
Rugby and Judo in my younger years.

How often do you rest?
I have alot of forced rest, if you can call it rest, when I'm at home with the kids so I tend to overtrain quite a bit when I'm offshore.

Do you suffer many injuries?
The high impact sports I do can cause a bit of pain with the knees but nothing more.

Have you ever parachuted (sky dived tandem or solo) out of a plane. Would you?
Haven't but would do. Not high on the priority list but it would be a step in the right direction to try a BASE jump.

What is the one sport you have never taken part in but would have loved to have excelled in?
Everything I'm greedy like that.
