Fitness First / Men's Fitness Female Winner 'Fit Brit 2008'

Introduction By WGC

The growing sport of X Training will undoubtedly miss the former stars of the past. Legends of the sport have gone on to other challenging sports, which in some cases has been very successful and rewarding and to those that have been at the top of this sport, may they enjoy the memory of sport they once did and applaud those that are now trying to be successful at one of the hardest short term endurance sports out there.

One such person breaking on to the scene is Annabella Weaver, from Fitness First Rochdale. Annabella won this years female Fit Brit title and WGC asked her how she found the challenge and what the future holds.

New challenges such as the Fit Brit are great for the sport and in particular introducing women into X Training and WGC has already received emails saying they enjoyed that challenge so much, they are looking out to compete in more X Training challenges.

How did you train for Fitbrit ?
I did a lot of CV training for the fitbrit as this was the main emphasis on the course as the weights weren't as heavy as some others!! I was training 5/6 times a week. I mix my sessions up ie one night I will do reps on the treadmill (8 x 2 min reps on level 17, 2 min's off or 5k as fast as I can) and weights and then other nights I will do bike reps (8 x 1km reps on level 15 with 2 min rest) then weights. I'm not a big fan of the rower although I do work on it if the next comp course involves it and I usually just do the set programs on the x trainer.
 Training all over
 What's next?
I'm doing the 12 days of Christmas Comp at Rochdale, which Aidy designed for the club to motivate members during the festive period, then I will see what comes up next.
Do you train anywhere else or do other sports?
I have just started a new job that allows me to start training with Salford Harriers again so hopefully I will be able to do some races with them. I used to run competitively with them so I cant wait to start training with them again. We will be doing track sessions at the city of manchester stadium and other interval sessions etc.
Weights are not normally a problem
What would like to see change next year?
The event was great this year but I think it could have been better had more supporters been able to attend (it was restricted to 2 per competitor).
Since winning have you been offered a million pound sponsorship deal ?
A £1million sponsorship deal?...I wish!Haha! The prizes were great though (a wii, smoothie maker, brooks running trainers and lots of other bits and bobs including the 'champion' T shirt!!!)

Fav Book: Harry Potter

Fav film: If I was going to be cool Bella I'd say Pulp Fiction but to be honest I have a guilty pleasure for Disney films!
Fav food: Paella but if I'm cooking myself I can just about manage scrambled eggs on toast!!!

Thanks Bella. We believe Fit Brit is returning next year and best of luck in defending your title.

Who helped you train for this event
Aidy Cartwright the general manager of Fitness First Rochdale and Andy Lett (another finalist) really helped with my training. When I could I would train with Andy and Jamie Fraser ( a leading UK X Trainer). It's good that x training is a big thing at Rochdale because we all encourage each other! Everyone was v happy for me at the gym although none has asked for my autograph yet...haha!

You had a really good bike time at this years fit brit -do you enjoy cycling?
My bike time was Ok I guess, I was a little disappointed to be honest! I've never been a cyclist but I do enjoy bike training ...I think I've got strong legs from my dancing days, which helps!
What was your weakest event on the day ?
My weakest event was prob the burpees on the day...I got docked 3 reps, which was a bit harsh....!I usually struggle with the weights but the were light in the fitbrit so they was fine.
