Gym X Training Challenge

2008

The event that was held this year at Dance Junction in Kent and supported by the Rochester Health Club, saw some amazing races. The atmosphere was charged with new blood that had traveled from all over the UK to be here, many competing for their first event. Also keeping a close eye on events - Joyce Nunu from the FIA (Fitness Industry Association), who went on to say how much she enjoyed the day, and was inspired by the level of commitment by gymathletes to perform to such a high level of fitness. Joyce also commented would like to compete in a X Training event and for those of us who know- know exactly what she means - once see a event, you want to do it - and once you've competed - it's all about just getting faster and fitter!

Neil Cameron, currently the fastest man on the 'Gym - Fit' Challenge database won the day. A former Ultrafit contender and now serving Fireman, Neil has made an impressive comeback onto the circuit, competing in " Fittest Royal Marine (as a ex RM) The Octathalon, and The Dale Destroyer. Sarah Green from Gorton won the ladies event. Cath Haines a Personal Trainer to the sport came down from Andover and basically was blown away by by seeing what happens at a X Training event and has now set her sites on competing regularly at as many X Training events as she can.

Neil Cameron Sarh GreenCath Haines

The race plan for next year will see a number of new additions to the sport where the grass root's are developing. It was fantastic to see many first timers entering this years event and WGC has it's aims very firmly still becoming a recognised sport one day.

The Intermediate growth into the sport of X Training is what will continue the sport into the next decade.

X - Training. A sport in the making .

Fittest Gym of the Year 2009

If you are a member of WGC website and you think your gym is the fittest in all of the UK - then why not prove it. 2009 will see a trial year for the fittest gym in the UK to shine.

How is this so ? Well every time you enter a WGC event you earn points for your gym - if your gym hosts a WGC event , your gym earns points , if any Personal Trainer, or Gym Instructor enters a WGC event, again your gym earns points and not forgetting that all important podium place - again points will be earned.

At the end of the day - it will points earned by combined members and staff taking part in WGC X Training Challenges that will earn the winning gym - the title of Fittest Gym in the UK.

The trial year will see only the first 10 gyms to be nominated by members who have the potential to earn this title for their gym.

X Trainers doing their bit for Charity

So far this year, it would be fair to say that X Training has taken on a slightly different dimension to it's proceedings.

Ty Whitlock at the end of last year following a tragic loss of to the Fire Brigade donated generously towards a fund set up just after the incident.

Aidy Cartwright, in keeping with his charity donations has raised funds for a local hospice in Rochdale and also the British Heart Foundation.

World Gym Challenge chosen charity, again is the British Heart Foundation, and over £200 was raised from just 30 or so entrants for that event.

It would be marvelous to see this line of work continue into 2009 and WGC will pushing local and National Charity events on it's website in the New Year

The British Heart Foundation receiving great support from WGC and local Tory Parliamentary Candidate  Reh Christi.

Help for Heroes

Just recently , the Royal Marines rowed the Atlantic on Concept 2 rowing machines. Reference to this was on the Blog page and for those of you who hadn't seen it, a reminder that more funds can still be donated by logging onto the charity website - Just Giving

http://www.justgiving.com/tonycreaney

Danny Watson

Sgt Danny Watson of the Army Physical Training Corps, will on the 12 th Dec be raising more funds for Help for Heroes ...

Guys, Gals and gym warriors!!   I am writing this message to let everyone know that Myself and my good friend Sgt Chris Gibbs are currently in training to do a 24hr pull up and dips charity event in Dec.

We are going to be doing 7 pull ups and 7 dips every minute for 24 hours

The schedule is for me to do an hour constant then Chris, then me , then Chris...etc.  It work out at over 10,000 of each between up.

We are going to be raising money for Help for Heroes.

These guys have served there country and unfortunately they have been injured in the process and everything we can do to help them and their families is the least we can do with our able bodies.

Chris and myself are willing to suffer a bit on pain so they can enjoy their lives in as little pain as possible.

I have set up a just giving website which is:

www.justgiving. com/dannygibboap tc

Any donation would be very very much appreciated.   Training is going well and will keep you posted when the date is set in stone but think it will be Friday 12th Dec 08 just a week after the Cracker.

Sgt. Danny Watson. APTC

The Hampshire & Fire X Training Challenge 2008 6th December 2008

Ty Whitlock will again be running the very successful and now in it's 16th year X Training Challenge at the Hampshire Health and Racquets Club on the 6th Dec.

This year see's a slight change in it's format with the reduction in disciplines with the dreaded bench jumps being taken out of the challenge.

Controversial in training for events bench jumps have been the bain of many a niggle when it comes to injuries. The plus for bench jumps - very easy to judge - very hard to cheat on - the minus, many complaints that too many jumps in training leads to injuries. I think a sensible number of this very good plyometric exercise is a sensible approach so that training or events become a equal balance of that very important all over approach.

Ty's son is now serving in Afghanistan and profits from this event will go towards help for Heroes Charity.

Party Party Party

After this years event at the Hampshire Ty has very kindly arranged the end of Year X Trainers X Xmas Party.

The event starts at 7 30 pm and will finish at Midnight.

Dress - Smart and Casual.

Due to licensing laws - no children under the age of 18 will be admitted - sorry!

Price of the ticket £7.50

All details of this excellent event can be found at

http://www.worldgymchallenge.com/WGC-X-Training.Events.asp

Last year at the Hampshire
Due to the race format being changed Sam Orgee's Course record is up for grabs - no bench jumps this year will see maybe a sub 18 minute ?

Fitness First Rochdale .... 6th December

The versatility of X - Training is such that all you need are members, venues, equipment - a challenge and then somewhere to publish the results.

X - Training can be done in any gym - anywhere in the world and whatever challenge suits the club that is running it.

It therefore follows that this can be a seasonal challenge too .... something to keep members focused during the festive season - something to keep members motivated to stay on top of things when that season to indulge in on us - something like ....

Fitness First 12 Days of Christmas X- Training Challenge

Keep posted on WGC and see if your club could run something similar to the 12 days of Christmas - or contact info@worldgymchallenge.com

and run that challenge in your club.

Rules to follow on website

TAGS

Something new for the site this year. TAGS. Boxers have them. Wrestlers, have them UFC fighters have them and now X - Trainers have them too.The sport is that unique and so limited in numbers that a number of established X - Trainers have a Tag to their name.

Latest News on the site has been mentioning a few but there are additions to be made daily - X- Trainers are The Gym Elite and until the sport has the numbers that brings it in to the mainstream media arena, then we will go on representing the fittest Gymathltes in the UK with the rest of the world playing catch up when they can be challenged to take on the best in the UK.

Nelson ' Duzzit' Anderson - Nelson will compete at any event , anywhere in the country at any time! Recently competed in an event straight after finishing a nightshift

Kirk 'Cool Hand' Gibbons - named after the character from Cool Hand Luke - unflappable and super cool!

Andy ' Gill' Lett - named after the razor blade - sharp, smooth and a great ambassador for his club and the sport - the best a man can get.

Chris ' One Stop' Lord - A incredible discovery for X Training, winning Royal Marines title of Fittest Royal Marine. Doesn't break in his let up to do all the stations in one hit. Only stops when he finishes!

Martin 'Won't Stop' Carter - Competing for years in X - Training - just keeps going!

Steve ' Legs' Mead - Becoming a firm favourite at events and increasing his times and performance at every challenge. Great runner and cycler.

Pioneering a sport in the making .....

A single database of one X Training Challenge allows a number of different races to take place as everybody is using the same equipment in a gym - or at a race event. And everybody is doing the same challenge.

Terms for Racing

The database to take this sport forward is waiting to be filled up. Personal Trainers, Gym Instructors, Gym Managers, your members and clients need your help. Get them into the database with a verified time and then let the racing commence ... !

Equal Fitness Racing (EFR) Equal Gym Fitness racing is so  much more fun to watch then hare and tortoise stuff - Please help fill up the 'Gym - Fit' Leader board so Equal Fitness Racing (EFR) can take place. A 16 second differential of times (2 second per station) between competitors will ensure close racing every time.

Locked Racing . When racing somebody who has exactly or one second difference as you on the 'Gym-Fit' Challenge Database. Any one that has seen Sgt Danny Watson race Steve 'Legs' Mead will know exactly why this is so important - a dead heat at Rochdale and one second separating them in the 'Gym - Fit' Challenge Leader Board. The next time these two race will be awesome!

Team Racing (TR) Football teams, can race each other. Rugby teams can race each other - in fact just about anybody can race one another - in a studio ! Are you as a gym manager making the most of your studio that could be full instead of empty?

Team Event Racing (TER)The formation of teams starts in your own gym. It builds relations and bonds team work - could your gym challenge another gym to a X Training Challenge ? The return match could well be the start of some very serious rivalry!

Time Delayed Racing (TDR) The time is on the Gym Studio side here. No one has to travel to anywhere else but the gym  studio within their own gym - it is here where husband and wife can race each other, when the differential in 'Gym - Fit' times are taking as the start time.

No Judge Required (NJR) The event is such that a judge is not needed, ie the race involves equipment that a time keeper can check the correct level of input for the machine being used (Life Fitness Bike level 12 for instance) and checks the correct distance is completed.

News, Information, Stories and the Blog Page

Is your gym getting into X Training? Are you a Personal Trainer who's clients are seeing the benefits of X Training. Is there anything you would like to know about X Training?

Information and the people who know a thing or two about X Training can be found on this site.

If you update your Personal Folders - you can contact one another direct through email- also the Chat Room and the Blog page

If you wish to comment on the Blog - you do have to re register on that page - it is free to do so and lets you have an input into the various topics being discussed about X - Training

More women needed!

X Training is a mixed sport - it has no prejudices as to who is the supreme gymathelete - but at this moment in time, statistically men do better in it for the simple reason, there are more men that compete. It's a crazy fact because the split for gender gym membership surely has to be nearly equal membership and especially with women attending classes like there's no tomorrow and seeking the help of Personal Trainers to get them fitter - X Training does seem a good idea?

Good luck to everybody who competes in these very unique challenges. You are all part of a very demanding sport and you are the Gym Elite.

Regards to you all
