UK GCA Newsletter March 2009
Welcome to the March News Letter for the UK GCA.
Much has happened in these past few weeks to try and promote X Training and the people who do it. It is the UK GCA belief that the sport of X Training is actually now at long last being accepted as beneficial to ones motivation and focus when training in a gym and is pleased to be actively involved in the sports development.
The September Challenge
X Training as a sport is making headway in gyms, more events this year are emerging. This is great for the sport and encouraging for future growth. So it is with great pleasure that the UK GCA brings a new form of Challenge to the table.
The ON Line September Challenge
As the crowded calendar for events get larger, the stress in training gets greater - no X Trainer could compete week in week out - nor could they travel to the far corners of the UK to compete either, it is unpractical, expensive and time consuming and for these reasons UK GCA is creating the ON Line Challenge.
The Orbital, which is the UK GCA annual Gym Challenge has been booked for Chatham Fitness First on the 26th September and this will be the official time for the fastest event time of the year - but September will also incorporate the Fastest ON Line Challenge and this will be a charity event in support of the BHF.
Local gyms are now asked to train in the six months lead up to September and get bench mark times for members - and then submit times in September which will be published on the September Leader Board.
If your gym would like to receive A1 (x6) posters to promote this challenge then please contact info@worldgymchallenge.com the cost is £150.00 plus VAT - Time Sheets to record times will be sent via email.
If your gym would like 10 x free A5 posters then please contact info@worldgymchallenge.com
Remember the complete database is free to all gym's and gym members of the UK GCA
Get Graded!
WGC is the only on line system that can verify events and grade X Trainers according to their completion time for the gym challenge.

That's not fair ! ... I hear you say - how can somebody at the age of 50 be given the same time grading as somebody who is only 19 ? And that is a good point - but the UK GCA is promoting Equal Fitness Racing (EFR) and the 19 year old will race the 50 year old if their times match up. Indeed the whole concept is aimed at racing people of similar times against each other on race day - to make good , clean, fun and exciting races.
All other entries for this event are graded as Silver - entered a national event .
Events On The Horizon
The Brighton X Training Challenge (April 4th)
The next event is almost upon us . The new Brighton X Training Challenge to be held at Coral Health and Fitness Club and totally arranged and created by Jamie Spencer - who incidenatlly finished third in the Iceland X Training Challenge which was held just recently. Well done Jamie - great show on all counts.
Fitness X (May 16th)
Interest for this event is always on everybody's lips at this time of year - Mark Drury again brings to Fitness First Luton the Fitness Challenge that has stood the test of time and always been a firm favourite with all X Trainers. Could this be the year that a fired up Jason Kings' race record of 17: 38 gets beaten?
The Gorton Grueller (June 27th)
The recently formed Fitness Committee of Gorton Fitness First, which see's personal trainers and members get together and oversee the implementation and smooth running of this event has been a massive leap forward for the sport - fantastic forward planning will ensure that all the preparation is not resting one persons shoulders - but taking in support from many angles - very exciting to see this happen and with Mike Jones spearheading this years event and the very popular Kirsty Read acting as Head Judge - this will be a very hard and enjoyable day.
The Gym Studio is a laboratory?
When you join a gym there is usually a induction process and sometimes a first program for you to try - it takes certain measurements into consideration to correctly provide a training program for you to which you try and better yourself on each visit?
X Training is run along those lines except for one important difference - there is a sense of togetherness in your training - Training partners are one thing - Training together partners is something else - when you both have a common goal you are working towards - a X Training Challenge - there is a far greater bond and on race day a healthy respect for one another and a great bonding.
The laboratory is now brought to your gym (the studio) analysis of all of your improvements are recorded onto a central database for free and at long last you will see a time pattern that tells you if you are getting fitter - that is real progress and if you work with a personal trainer a even greater sense of achievement when you finally take on your first gym challenge
More Gym Challenges .
UK GCA cannot say it invented the the concept of the Gym Challenge - that surely goes to Ultafit Magazine - who WGC and UK GCA would recognise as the founders of the 'Gym Challenge'. But WGC was the first to try instigate the sport through recognition at Sport England.
Other areas are emerging in the very heavily fought battle ground of sport and fitness publication - and WGC and the UK GCA will look on in interest as those who have been writing about everything but gym challenges , now take a new prospect and try their own events.
This is very good for the sport as it increases the awareness of how these challenges can greatly benefit you in training at a gym - so not only are there more events , but it looks like other magazines are now picking up on the Fitness Industry's best kept secret..... took their time considering they are meant to have the finest sporting brains working for them !
Are you the UK 's Fastest PE Teacher, Fireman, Serviceman, Football Player, Rugby Player, Tennis Player etc ........ in the World Gym Challenge?
Did you know in Edit your Profile and then Clicking the Edit Details (yellow tab) you can choose the sport in which you play so as not to interfere with your sport specific training - or click the tab for your service or teaching profile.
Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership
The Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership (EMDP) who are the National Governing Body for exercise movement and dance are looking to facilitate a meeting with any X Training organisation, association - or recognized body to gauge the picture of the current state of X Training within the UK and to determine it’s position within the sporting landscape. The goal would be to bring a common purpose and focus in all working under the same direction and seeking the promotion of the sport of X Training and it’s participants.
If you feel you are in that bracket and would like further information then please contact Jade Moulden at EMDP
Finally
Best of luck to any of the events you decide to enter this year and see you at the Brighton X Training Challenge where all results will be entered live into the results tables.
