    Roscoe Nash

Introduction by WGC
I have known Roscoe for a short while. He has a passion for X training. With his former Marine training and outstanding performances in various competitions over the years, he is a well seasoned constant performer. His own web site www.netfit.co.uk is a wealth of information, and as this site is non instructional, users of this web site would be well advised to seek information from it.

Acheivements...

Started life in running at 1,500 meters representing County - moved on into Triathlon first race was Swindon Ironman - joined the Marines and developed little pecs from doing loads of press-ups - enjoyed the indoor rower where I won my category at British Championships U23 services - found out about XT in the marines but got hooked after meeting Steve Quick, I couldn't believe a guy with so much muscle could run as fast as myself. Won every team event possible with Steve and other great guys such as Adam Horder - Lee Rainkin - Glenn Cooke - and many others. The Dream team wins were probably the best as these required specific training and also a lot of tactics. Have a few good placements individually, but will probably be remembered for my run at the first UKXTA event which took from my last place to second behind the legend of Hywel Davies

Qualifications...

Premier Training Diploma Business Studies Diploma A few others but will never work for someone else so there not important.

On X-Training...

How long have you been X-Training?
In 1996 I entered an Ultrafit style event at Royal Marines Poole, this was my first proper event, what made it great was that I was the last to race due to work commitments and the PTI's were making the prize presentation whilst I was still racing - Fortunately the Officer who was second in command of the SBS (Special Boat Squadron) new me personally and pushed me hard enough to win the event, which gave me a lot of respect amongst all that attended. The only downside was being asked by the RSM how someone who was medically downgraded could win such a difficult course. Fortunately my explanation was warrant and kept me away from what would have been my main role - Guard Duty (18 days on 3 days off).

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
X-training enables you to vary your workouts to help remove the boredom of the gym. Its great to see athletes that may not look overly fit or strong totally destroy others that have spent their lives trying to look fit and strong - the mental side is always more important than the physical

Roscoe on the treadmillDo you teach X-Training to your clients?
I use to teach spin classes for 7 years, the last four years I simply used the classes to help my training for XT events - simply spend a minute or two on the bike, then jump off and perform bench jumps - sit ups - press ups etc etc. If your wanting all round strength and quick results, then XT will get you this.

What are their views on X-Training?
My classes were without doubt the hardest at the gym, it didn't matter what your level of fitness was, it only mattered on your effort levels. If they never put in the effort I would show them the door, this no BS attitude was what those that took part loved, combined with the fact that every class was totally different as XT offers so many different variations.

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
Steve Quick in the early days, then Mr Davies in the later years, I just wanted to beat him, I've been close, especially at X-zone but so many have tried and failed, so coming second should not be looked at as a defeat but as a further learning curve.

How often do you train?
I used to train twice a day probably 5 - 6 days a week, but each session was short and purposeful. The last few years have been extremely difficult for me, after the first UKXTA I actually only trained 5 times in a 9 month period, putting on 7kg in weight due to personal stresses. I'm now back on track to kick arse again and looking forward to some more events, especially now I can focus quality time on quality training.Roscoe Nash

What is your favourite exercise?
The rower or the bike I enjoy as find these both quite easy, probably due to my long legs.

What is your favorite food for training?
My diet has always been my weakest link, I've lived on a junk diet for years, when I try and eat healthy I get ill. Now cutting back a lot of the process foods, but anything that gives me a sugar intact will aid my training - I also like to chew gum, especially in long workouts.

What is your ambition in X-Training?
To be in a race which gets the recognition the sport deserves and finish on the Podium.

What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?
Train the mind - the body only stops when you tell it to.Roscoe, Nik Kandola, Will Whitmore

On Sport...

Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
Mostly athletics, running and throwing disciplines. Team sports was not my thing, but played football and basketball because of my height.

Do you compete in any other sport?
Played roller hockey which I loved, but as in the men's league at 14, bit difficult as was often flattened due to my physical abilities.

Have you completed in any other sport in the past?
From running went into Triathlon, from tri into rowing, from rowing into XT, but will also be going back into triathlon - going to do another Ironman race as this was always a goal of mine.

How often do you rest?
Whenever I need to, sometimes I may go to the gym to have a workout and leave within a few minutes if not feeling right - I will always listen to my body.

Do you suffer many injuries?
Not generally, but after a long time off, I pushed myself too hard and caused a lot of muscle soreness. XT enables you to be able to train both CV and weights so you can always get some kind of workout or rest.Roscoe sit ups

Have you ever parachuted (sky dived tandem or solo) out of a plane. Would you?
Yes, but its not my thing, especially as have problems with my inner ear after a bad accident.

Do you think the obesity problem in schools and the US can be controlled?
The problem has come around and getting worse - people know why but controlling the problem would mean a massive lifestyle change - its going to get worse whereby the modern world will all look like weeble wobbles from Houston.

What's the one golden rule in weight management?
if you eat more than you expel you will become fat, dieting wont get you fit and healthy but exercise will. Everyone focuses on dieting, but a sedentary lifestyle is as bad as stuffing crap down your throat.
