I do not know Andy that well. The only times that I generally see him is when he is collecting one of the placing prizes he usually walks away with. An exceptional athlete with a brilliant all round performance which is consistent at each event he turns up to. A quiet, confident and talented X Trainer.

Sporting - none whatsoever Academic - D.Phil from Oxford University

On X-Training...

How long have you been X-Training?
Since 2001 (Boxfit in March 2002 was my first event, with a relay leg in Tropicana 2001)

Why do you find X-Training so exciting?
Variety Provides incentives/objectives to training

Who has been your biggest influence in X-Training?
Hwyel Davies and Dave Cox (from the Clearwater Fitness gym in Oxford - he got me interested in x-training) Andy Wood

How often do you train?
5-6 times per week (once per day)

What is your favorite exercise?
Top 3 Sprint starts Bench jumps Treadmill

What is your favorite food for training?
Pasta, Jaffa Cakes

What is your ambition in X-Training?
To keep going! Maintain respect from other x-trainers

Another ambition - to finish in each of the Top 10 positions in the Open category (I only have 8th to fill now!)


What exercise secret would you give a newcomer to X-Training?

1)Your head is the most important assert on race day - use your mental strength to put all of that training into practice!

2) On any station, do not go to total failure - e.g. put the bar down BEFORE you get completed knackered, otherwise it will take a lot longer to complete the remaining reps

Did you excel at sport at school and if yes, what sport?
Not really

Do you compete in any other sport?
No

Have you completed in any other sport in the past?
Swimming (to about 1988) Water Polo (to about 1986)

How often do you rest?

Do you suffer many injuries?

A few trauma injuries as a result of crashing my bike (none since 1994!) Occasional shoulder and back problems, in which case I adapt my training program


Have you ever parachuted (sky dived tandem or solo) out of a plane. Would you?
no/no (spent time in Queenstown New Zealand this year, the unofficial adrenalin capital of the world, but no aerial activities!)

If you could meet anyone in sport, past or present, who would it be?

Chris Adams (Sussex cricket club caption) - he has given a once struggling team the confidence to believe that they are the best in the country.
